The official announcement of the fight between Saul Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) and John Ryder (32-5, 18 KOs) getting closer and closer. The bout is set to take place on May 6, but contrary to earlier claims, it will not be Canelo's debut in front of a British audience.
Eddie Hearn said that the Alvarez-Ryder fight will not take place in England. According to the head of Matchroom Boxing, the fight between Canelo and the British could take place in Las Vegas, Mexico City or Abu Dhabi. The venue for the fight for the Mexican IBF, WBO, WBA and WBC super middleweight belts should be officially confirmed in the coming weeks.
Ryder, who defeated Zach Parker in his last fight, is the interim World Boxing Organization champion and will face Alvarez as the official contender for the WBO full-weight title. Canelo has two professional fights scheduled this year. In September, a boxer from Mexico should get a rematch with Dmitry Bivol.
