Robert Garcia Cooked Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) for his last fight, and for a day he himself confirmed that Derrick James would become AJ's new coach. Information about James's candidacy appeared a week ago. Until now, he has been known primarily for his collaborations with Errol Spence, WBC, WBA and IBF welterweight world champion.
“I said from the very beginning that the best thing that could happen to him is training in the USA. And that's exactly what he intends to do. Earlier, he told me that he wants to talk and meet with other coaches. As far as I know, Derrick James will continue to be his coach. He is an excellent coach. This is a good decision, especially if Joshua trains with Errol Spence, Jermell Charlo and Frank Martin,” said Robert Garcia.
“When I left England, I told Joshua and his team that I think that he should not only train in the USA, but also be surrounded by other good fighters,” added Garcia, who was preparing AJ for a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk ( 20-0, 13 KOs). The Englishman again lost to the Ukrainian on points, but showed himself better than in the first meeting.
Joshua is expected to return to the ring on April 1st in London. Among the favorites for the role of his opponent are two names - right-hander Jermaine Franklin (21-1, 14 KOs) and left-hander Demsi McKean (22-0, 14 KOs).
