WBC set to schedule Benavidez-Plant fight

The World Boxing Council (WBC) is due to schedule a bout for the interim super middleweight title between David Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs) and Caleb Plant (22-1, 13 KOs). The fight should take place in the first half of next year in the United States.

On Saturday, Plant defeated Anthony Dirrell ahead of schedule in the World Boxing Council eliminator in the 76 kg weight category. The full champion in this division is Saul Alvarez, who will be able to return to the ring no earlier than September.

Benavidez, 25, has held the WBC title since May. The American won the title by defeating David Lemieux ahead of schedule.
