Gennady Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs) will have to make a decision about their future in the next 5 days. GGG, despite losing to Saul Alvarez on Saturday, remains the WBA middleweight champion of the world. The fight with Canelo took place in the super middleweight category, and now the boxer from Kazakhstan must tell the World Boxing Association in which division he wants to continue his career.

If GGG decides to return to middleweight, he will have 120 days to cross the gloves with Erislandy Lara (29-3-3, 17 KOs), who is also the WBA 72.5kg champion. Saturday's fight was the last for Golovkin under a contract with the streaming service DAZN and promotional organization Matchroom Boxing.

Golovkin is now a free agent. Lara has been competing for many years under the banner of Premier Boxing Champions, who can offer GGG a one-show contract. If Golovkin refuses to fight Lara, he will lose the WBA world title, but retain his other IBF championship belt.
