Former UFC two-division champion Daniel Cormier turned to the newly-baked welterweight champion of the organization Leon Edwards. He advised the Briton not to fight with Jorge Masvidal. Cormier noted the fact that Jorge did not even think about Edwards until he became a champion.
“Jorge suddenly started saying that he would fight if you become a champion. Edwards shouldn't be fighting Jorge Masvidal. He should literally recognize Masvidal as a minor league and not even mention his name. Why talk about Masvidal if this guy hit you on the sly backstage but never fought you? Then all of a sudden you became a champion and he wanted to fight you," Cormier was quoted by sportskeeda.com
Recall that Edwards became the UFC champion by knocking out Kamaru Usman in a rematch. He finished the Nigerian Nightmare in the last minute of the fifth round.
