SugarHill Steward, WBC heavyweight champion head coach Tyson Fury, has no idea if his boxer will actually live up to his pre-fight promise to retire after an upcoming mandatory title defense against Dillian Whyte. Fury will defend his belt against White on April 23 at Wembley Stadium. Potentially, a 100,000th audience may be present at the battle.

This is not the first time Fury has said he plans to retire from the sport, only to pursue a career. The steward would not be surprised if his boxer continued his professional performances.

“No matter what he said in his time, but what is, is. As you know, everyone in the world changes their mind, so it all depends on how much you or anyone else puts your thoughts into what you say,” Steward said in an interview with BT Sport. “No one believes Tyson anyway, so what’s the difference?”

Fury is considered the favorite to defeat White. In his last fight, the Gypsy King knocked out Deontay Wilder in the eleventh round of their trilogy. If he wins later this month, he could face the winner of an upcoming rematch between the IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk and the former owner of these belts Anthony Joshua.

White has not competed since March 2021 when he knocked out Alexandra Povetkina in their revenge. The steward is not going to underestimate White and believes that everyone has a chance for a heavyweight knockout.

“Look, this is the heavyweight division, the most exciting division in boxing,” Steward added. “Here everyone has a chance. That is why it is one of the most spectacular divisions. Anything can happen here. Everyone has enough strength for a knockout. All these healthy men weigh 100 kg.”
