Ryder: Jacobs punches didn't impress me

Daniel Jacobs - John Ryder

“Beating such an opponent is a great scalp,” said John Ryder (31-5, 17 KOs) at a press conference after winning a split decision over the favorite Daniel Jacobs (37-4, 30 KOs).

“Initially, I wanted to see what he was capable of, and after three rounds I realized that he was not so scary, and his punches did not have enough firepower to be afraid of them. We initially assumed that we would give up part of the initiative, but we would win the second half of the battle. We had an excellent tactical plan, and it seemed to me that I won a little more confidently than the judges thought. For me, this is a big victory, because I have not yet beaten anyone who could even come close to the achievements of Jacobs, ”said the Briton.

“In the second half of the fight, I was more active than Jacobs. Time, in the end, conquers all. This was my evening. Now I hope to get a fight for the world title in the next fight, ”added Ryder.
