Former champions in the ring, having hung their gloves on a nail, often do not cope in their personal lives. Story Jorge Rodrigo Barrios (53-5-1, 36 KOs) is an example of such a drama. Barrios returned to the ring a year ago, but lost on points to compatriot Jonathan Barros and, probably, ended his career on this.
Yesterday, Hyena was arrested for domestic violence. The 45-year-old boxer threatened his 33-year-old girlfriend with a firearm and threatened to kill her. Worse, the 13-year-old son of a girl from another man became a witness to these events. Unfortunately, this incident was not the only one for the Argentine in recent times.
Barrios won the WBO super featherweight title in April 2005 by stopping previously undefeated Mike Anchondo in the fourth round. After two successful defenses, he lost the belt by split decision to Joan Guzmán almost twenty months later.
Then a series of terrible events followed in the boxer's personal life: he beat his own son and got into a car accident in which a pregnant woman died. For this, Barrios spent four years in prison. In turn, on New Year's Eve from 2019 to 2020, the former champion was stabbed and miraculously survived. Now he will probably also have to spend some time behind bars.
