Top Rank head Bob Arum said he plans to organize a fight that will become a big event in American boxing. It's about meeting of Teofimo Lopez (16-0, 12 KOs) and Shakur Stevenson (17-0, 9 KOs).
“Teofimo Lopez said that he does not want revenge with Vasyl Lomachenko, whom he defeated in a unification match. I cannot get Lopez to go for revenge, so I would like to organize his fight against Shakur Stevenson. I still need to talk about this with the boxers, but this is a confrontation that the fans will definitely want to see,” said Arum.
As a reminder, Fearless Shakur, who ousted world featherweight champion Jamel Herring in October, recently expressed a desire to fight Lopez, as well as another young lightweight champion, WBC title holder Devin Haney.
“Teofimo Lopez is a great boxer, he is a puncher. Devin Haney is also a great boxer. He doesn't have much strength in his fists, but he does have decent skills. In the end, both of them are really interesting for me on my way to the top,” said Shakur, who got silver at the Olympic Games in Rio 2016.
On November 27, in New York, Lopez will meet with George Kambosos Jr. If he wins this repeatedly postponed bout and defends the IBF, WBA and WBO lightweight belts, he will finally be able to focus on the biggest challenges - in theory at least.
