Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov shared the story of how he turned down legendary football coach Sir Alex Ferguson's offer to have wine with him.
"When I met Daniel Cormier, he invited me to a party," Khabib said in a meeting for the Eman Channel's YouTube channel. "I declined. He asked me why. I said, 'Why would I go to a party? I don't drink." He replies: "It's okay, I have Muslim acquaintances, they go to parties. And you can go." I said, "No, no, no." That was in 2012. I have a lot of friends myself, although I don't know if they are friends. They are, when it suits them, Muslims, and when it suits them, they are not.
"But I never beat my chest that I'm a Muslim and don't say it to everyone. I'm not shy about my faith, but I don't say it to everyone. Here we were at the stadium today, Patrice Evra, Usain Bolt, Sir Alex Ferguson. Alex Ferguson offers me a drink of wine. It's good for him. I'm not judging him. But how do I explain my position? You could be direct: "No, no, no, I'm a Muslim, I don't drink". But you can also go another way, like I did, "If I drink, I'm going to blow you guys away here. That's not a good idea." I said that to Sir Alex a couple of hours ago. He got it right away, "I get it, you don't drink."
