According to ESPN reporter Ariel Helwani, Cuban star Yoel Romero will make his Bellator debut against the promotion's former bantamweight champion Phil Davis. Their meeting will headline the Bellator 266 show, which will take place Sept. 18 in San Jose.
Romero was scheduled to fight his first Bellator fight in May against Anthony Johnson, but was not cleared to fight by the medical board due to eye problems. Promotions head Scott Coker announced today that the Cuban has been cleared to fight.
Romero, 44, has not appeared in the cage since last March when he lost on points to UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.
Davis, 36, lost in April by unanimous decision to Vadim Nemkov in the quarterfinals of the promotion's bantamweight Grand Prix. The American had a three-match winning streak.
