According to TMZ, the legendary MMA fighter 45-year-old Anderson Silva has signed a contract for a boxing match with the 35-year-old former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The fight will take place on June 19 in Mexico as part of the tournament, in the main event of which there will be an exhibition duel between Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. and Hector Camacho Jr.
Silva terminated his contract with the UFC in November 2020 after losing to Uriah Hall, but has consistently stated that he wants to pursue his athletic career elsewhere and now appears to do so in the boxing ring.
“When I look back at my career, I see that it was all in vain,” said Silva. "I am very happy to have the opportunity to test my boxing skills with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. I train constantly and always keep myself in shape. I am ready to overcome obstacles. Fights are my eternal breath."
The event Tribute to the Kings, will take place at the Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara and will be available for live viewing on a pay-per-view basis.
For years, Silva wanted to have a boxing bout with Roy Jones Jr., but the UFC did not allow him to box.
“I am dedicated again to the sport I love and I will be ready to face any light heavyweight opponent starting with Silva. I will be ready to win on June 19,” Chavez Jr. said regarding his fight with Silva.
