British WBC Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury is convinced that former UFC two-division title holder Conor McGregor was defeated in a fight with Dustin Poirier due to prolonged layoff.
“I watched this fight. Conor said that the layoff was the reason for his defeat, and he is right. He had two fights in 2016, then stood idle for two years and went to fight Khabib. Then he rested again for two years and had a fight with Cerrone in January 2020, and a year later he met Poirier.
Layoff kills the predator in you, there is no doubt about that. When one fighter was active: he fought, held sparring sessions and training camps, and the other just lay on the couch, this is no good. You lose timing and sense of distance. It all comes back in hours of training and fighting,” Fury said in an interview with Gareth Davis.
