Gaethje threatens to leave UFC if McGregor gets a title shot

Former interim UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje said he would seriously consider leaving the promotion if management gives Conor McGregor a title fight.

“If the management announces that the third fight between McGregor and Poirier will be the title fight, then they are damn idiots. He was constantly treated in a special way, and he did not take this opportunity. This event was made for him, he had to win.

I will consider leaving the UFC if he gets a title shot. It would be absurd. He sits in sixth place in the rankings and has won only one fight in his entire life in the lightweight division. He constantly chooses opponents for himself. I would like to fight him, but I don’t think it should be the next step, and he will not want to,” Gaethje told ESPN.

On January 24 McGregor lost in rematch to Dustin Poirier by technical knockout. The first meeting of these fighters took place in September 2014 - then the Irishman was celebrating the victory by TKO.
