Eric Gomez, the president of Golden Boy Promotions, suggested that next year's planned fight between IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KOs) and Jaime Munguia (36-0, 29 KOs) could take place on May 1. In the USA the fight will be shown on the DAZN platform.
Munguia, 24, is a former light middleweight champion. In January, the Mexican made his middleweight debut and had two victorious fights in the new limit.
Golovkin will not wait for the trilogy with Saul Alvarez, because Canelo plans to continue performing in the super middleweight division. A possible unification fight with WBO champion Demetrius Andrade will also have to wait because of the mandatory defense of the American with Liam Williams.
