British promoter Eddie Hearn announced that Alexander Povetkin (36-2-1, 25 KOs) will face Dillian Whyte (27-2, 18 KOs) in a rematch no later than February 13th. At stake there will be the interim WBC heavyweight title.
“We still want this fight to take place on January 30th. We are targeting this date, but Povetkin's team has yet to confirm if this date is right for them. The fight could be postponed for up to two weeks,” Hearn said.
“Povetkin is already training and has recovered from coronavirus. This isn't a full strength workout yet, but he is feeling good and getting in shape. Whyte wants this rematch as soon as possible, so we have nothing to wait for,” the British promoter said.
Povetkin and Whyte first met in the ring on 22 August. The Russian sensationally won the fight by knockout, depriving the "Body Snatcher" of his WBC mandatory contender status.
