“I would like to make it clear that we will make every possible effort to ensure that our rights arising from the position of a mandatory challenger [for the WBO heavyweight belt] are respected,” Alexander Krasyuk said, promoter of Alexander Usyk (18-0, 13 KOs) to Sky Sports.
Usyk, by order of the World Boxing Organization, should become the next opponent of Anthony Joshua (23-1, 21 KOs), provided that he defeats Kubrat Pulev (28-1, 14 KOs) in December. However, it is not a secret for anyone that the British team prefers a unification duel with Tyson Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs).
Krasyuk claims that he will try to interfere with the fight of Joshua and Fury, or at least deprive AJ of the WBO belt if he decides in favor of the fight against the "King of the Gypsies".
“Usyk went through eight months of intense preparation for Dereck Chisora. Now he must relax, give rest to the body and mind. I think he will be ready to return in April 2021 and I hope that then he will meet AJ. If not, we will challenge the vacant title with a challenger to be appointed by the WBO,” Krasyuk said.
