Negotiations are underway for a duel between the new lightweight king Teofimo Lopez (16-0, 12 KOs) with George Kambosos Jr. (19-0, 10 KOs). The fight will take place in April at one of the stadiums in Melbourne or Sydney. The event will be organized with the participation of spectators.
Lopez, who defeated Vasyl Lomachenko in October, owns the IBF, WBA, WBO and WBC championship belts. Kambosos is the official contender for the International Boxing Federation title. In October, he won the IBF qualifier by defeating Lee Selby on points.
The IBF has not yet forced parties to start negotiations on this matter, but Lopez's team sees no obstacles in the absence of more interesting proposals for a mandatory defense in the first half of next year. On the same evening, the third fight of Joshua Franco and Andrew Moloney may take place. Their first fight ended with Franco's victory, and the second was disputably declared as a no decision.
