Hrgovic and Zhang score KO victories, Haney defends title

At DAZN Boxing Night in Florida, two Olympic heavyweight medalists - Philip Hrgovic (12-0, 10 KOs) and  Zhang Zhilei (22-0, 17 KOs) decorated their records with stoppage wins.

After a one-sided fight, Hrgovic stopped Rydell Booker (26-4, 13 KOs), who in his previous performance withstood the full distance with Kubrat Pulev. The two-meter Croat tried to break the American by force from the first bell. His efforts paid off in the second round when Booker, who had never lost by knockout in his career, ended up on the floor. Hrgovic did not slow down and continued to shower the helpless opponent with blows, but he could not end the fight with an obvious knockout, because in the fifth the unequal fight was stopped by the referee.

Zhang, in turn, recorded an effective knockout. The undefeated Chinese in a close round sent the usual tough Devin Vargas (22-7, 9 KO) to the floor.

In the main event of the evening, Devin Haney (25-0, 15 KOs) defended his WBC lightweight belt by defeating Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-4, 18 KOs) via unanimous decision. The talented 21-year-old American failed, like his 135-pound rival Gervonta Davis, to defeat the experienced Cuban by knockout, but his advantage was obvious and after twelve rounds the judges counted it 120-107, 120-107 and 118-109.
