Vasyl Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KOs) flew from Ukraine to the United States, where he will continue his preparations for the unification lightweight bout against Teofimo Lopez (15-0, 12 KOs), which will be held at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas 17 October.
Lomachenko is the WBC, WBA and WBO champion. The Ukrainian is missing the last title that the American has - IBF. The gentlemen were supposed to cross gloves in May, but the coronavirus pandemic thwarted those plans.
“Vasyl is already in America. He and his promoter Bob Arum are very happy with this. I have not yet seen Vasyl so excited before a duel, now everyone is waiting for this duel. You haven't really seen my boxer in great shape yet, because no opponent has yet used his reserves. A few weeks ago, while still at home, he began training. Now he will just continue it in the USA,” said Egis Klimas, the manager of Lomachenko.
Klimas also added that Lomachenko will not be preparing in his usual gym in Oxnard, California, Boxing Laboratory, but in the gym he built a year ago for himself in Camarillo. “He is Lomachenko, he thinks ahead, and therefore a year ago he built himself a gym, just in case,” Klimas said.
