Eddie Hearn, the promoter of Dillian Whyte, considers the upcoming fight of his boxer and Alexander Povetkin as the most important heavyweight fight of 2020. At Matchroom fight camp in Brentwood on Saturday, Whyte vs. Povetkin will be putting his mandatory WBC status on the line. Povetkin, an Olympic gold medalist and former WBA champion, will likely get his last chance to line up for a world title.

The winner of the bout will be in a position that could immediately bring him a fight for the WBC heavyweight title. If Whyte wins, according to the WBC resolution, he will have to receive a mandatory title fight by February 2021. The reigning WBC champion is Tyson Fury, who is contracted to fight Deontay Wilder in a fight scheduled for December 19.

At their recent convention, the WBC upgraded White vs. Povetkin fight, putting their diamond title on the line.
