Mauricio Suleiman the head of WBC is currently avoiding clear statements on whether the unification fight of  heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs) will be a “priority” over the mandatory defense of the title against Dillian Whyte (27-1, 18 KOs).

“At the moment, mandatory defense is scheduled for February 2021, but Dillian will first have to defend his interim title in the fight against Alexander Povetkin in July, although it is unknown yet how it will be. Joshua vs Fury is a unification, but many other things must happen first,” Mauricio Sulaiman said.

“Each of world champions has its own obligations, there are many fights that fans are waiting for, but we have too many questions to definitely give answers to all of them,” the president of the World Boxing Council said.

According to the latest data, Whyte’s clash against Povetkin is expected in August. In the meantime, Tyson Fury will have a third bout against Deontay Wilder at the end of the year.
