Sergio Martinez (51-3-2, 28 KOs) was preparing to return for several months, but his plans were hindered by the coronavirus pandemic. Despite this, Martinez does not change course and still wants to return to the ring.

Initially, Martinez planned to fight on June 6 in Madrid against an easy opponent, in order to in the next fight to meet Kerman Lejarraga (30-2, 24 KOs), the former welterweight champion. Marcos Rene Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) may be the third in line for his compatriot Argentinean to return.

Maravilla did not perform for six years. During this time, he said, he healed old injuries and is waiting for news about the situation with the pandemic in Spain, where he lived for a long time. Martinez is also waiting for a new date for his possible return.

“There are no facts yet, but I hope that in September the situation will get controlled enough so that I could fight. In any case, my return to the ring is only a matter of time. I will fight in the presence of spectators or without them, but I will fight. There are many interesting options. I could meet Learraga in Spain, Maidana in Argentina, or even Chavez Jr.,” said Martinez, 45.
