Kovalev: I could not win against Alvarez, I agreed to fight for money
Sergey Kovalev (34-4-1, 29 KOs) said that he had no chance of winning the fight against Saul Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs). The Russian went to fight with Canelo just two months later after his hard fight against Anthony Yarde, where the Russian was on the verge of defeat, but he was able to get together and knock the Briton out.
"Given the circumstances, the victory was impossible. If someone thinks that I could win, he did not understand anything. I was tired after some sleepless nights, but took this fight because the financial offer was interesting," The Krusher said, quoted by Michael Benson.
For 36-year-old Kovalev, which in the fight against Alvarez lost his WBO light heavyweight belt, the November defeat was the fourth in his last eight fights, and the third by TKO in his career.
