Gennady Golovkin (40-1-1, 35 KOs) scored in the close battle a difficult and controversial unanimous decision win over Sergiy Derevyanchenko (13-2, 10 KOs) and captured the vacant IBF middleweight title in the main event of the evening at the Madison Square Garden arena in New York.

Already in the first round Golovkin managed to send Derevyanchenko to the canvas. In the second round, Sergey was cut over his right eye, but it did not prevent him to go forward in the third and fourth rounds. In the fifth Derevyanchenko could significantly hurt Golovkin by body punches. The ending of the battle took place in the double-edged struggle.

The scores were 114-113, 115-112 and 115-112.

Both fighters immediately after the fight was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure, so a press conference after the fight didn't take place.
