The head of the Latvian boxing federation Andrejs Ahmedov said in a recent interview that neither WBC, nor WBO did not sanctioned Saturday's fight between Mairis Briedis (25-1, 18 KOs) and Krzysztof Glowacki (33-1, 19 KOs).
Initially WBO and WBC titles were at stake in World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight semifinal, but just one day before the fight WBC stated that it withdraw its trophy from the fight, due to disagreements with the organizers about officials.
"Before the battle, there were many questions and doubts. Each organization has its own rules, and shortly before the start of the battle the organizers decided that the boxers will only fight for a place in WBSS finals, and everything will be discussed later," said Akhmedov, adding that he hopes that WBO and WBC titles will be at stake in WBSS final fight between Briedis and Yunier Dorticos.
The situation around the Saturday battle also remains unclear due to its controversial ending. At the same time, WBO congratulated the winner Briedis in the social media. Although if WBO did not actually sanctioned this fight, formally Glowacki, who entered the ring as WBO champion, could not lose his belt, despite the defeat. Maybe, WBO will sanction the fight "backwards", but it would be a very controversial decision.
