Nurmagomedov: Holloway is the most likely opponent for September fight

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov considers the American Max Holloway his most likely opponent for a fight in September. This athlete told this on Tuesday after meeting with students of the Russian Economic Academy.

Earlier it was reported that the Americans Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier will fight for the title of interim UFC lightweight champion. The winner of the fight should meet Nurmagomedov.

“Everything was determined long ago,” Nurmagomedov said. “Ferguson was offered a fight, he refused, he has his own problems there. Now Holloway and Poirier are fighting for an interim belt, the champion should meet with the interim champion. It always has been and now there will be no exceptions".

“McGregor is not there, Saint-Pierre is not, Mayweather boxing fight also does not work - the UFC does not allow it under the contract,” added Nurmagomedov.

Responding to a question about his chances of a potential duel with Holloway, Nurmagomedov called him a worthy opponent.

“It will be interesting to fight Holloway,” the fighter said. “He has 13 victories in a row now, if he wins, it will be 14, he will be a champion in two weights categories. More interest for the public will be in the fight with Holloway. He is a very good fighter, no less in size than I am. Very strong-willed and tough, he basically wins battles in the later rounds. He is a worthy opponent," added Nurmagomedov.
