Fresh off his retirement from MMA, Dustin Poirier says he would like to test himself in boxing, but cannot do it because he is still under contract with the UFC.
Poirier said he still has fights remaining on his UFC deal, which prevents him from simply leaving and competing elsewhere.
He explained that he feels stuck in limbo and cannot just go fight wherever he wants. Poirier added that even if he had that freedom, he is not sure whether he would actually make the move, though boxing has always been something he wanted to pursue.
He also said the boxing side has not historically been eager to welcome MMA fighters, because the sport wants to be taken seriously on its own terms. On top of that, he believes that if one UFC fighter were allowed to do it, plenty of others on the roster would want the same opportunity.
