The Ukrainian Oleksander Usyk, who had previously announced his intention to move to the heavyweights, will hold his first fight in the new category against the Cameroonian Carlos Takam. This was announced by Eddie Hearn, the promoter of the Ukrainian.
On Thursday, Usyk announced that he was giving up his WBA championship belt and the fight with the Russian Denis Lebedev will not happen. The date of the new fight, according to the promoter, has not yet been precisely determined.
"Usyk goes to the heavyweights and he will fight Takam. At the moment we determine the date of the fight. At first we thought to organize the fight on May 18, but that day Wilder will perform, but we would not want to intersect these two shows. Possible options are May 17 and 25, we’ll decide this on Monday, however, the next fight of Usyk will definitely take place in the heavyweights against Takam,” said Hearn.
