Porter beat Ugas on points

Shawn Porter (30-2-1, 17 KOs) scored a split decision victory over Yordenis Ugas (23-4, 11 KOs) in the main event of the evening in Carson thus defended his WBC welterweight title. After twelve rounds, the judges counted 116-112 and 115-113 for Porter and 117-111 to Ugas.

The battle from the start was full of exchanges at the middle range. Ugas started the fight better, skillfully counterattacking the American and throwing combinations with both hands. The fight was very even, but in the second half of the fight Porter looked more effective.

In the end, the judges gave the American a slight advantage. For 31-year-old Porter, this was the first successful defense of the World Boxing Council title he won last year.
