Margarito beats Canelo’s brother by split decision Former world champion Antonio “Tijuana Tornado” Margarito (40-8, 27 KOs) scored a ten round split decision over Ramon “Inocente” Alvarez (23-5-2, 15 KOs) to claim the WBO Continental super welterweight title on Saturday night at the Baja California Center in Playas de Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico.

After a slow start, Margarito’s pressure started paying dividends. Alvarez’ punches had little effect as Margarito walked him down. Alvarez was down round eight, but rallied bravely in the final round. Scores were 97-92, 97-92 Margarito, 95-94 for Alvarez.
