Ramirez defends WBC title

In the main event of the evening in Fresno, California, José Ramírez (24-0, 16 KOs) scored a majority decision victory over José Zepeda (30-2, 25 KOs), thus defending his WBC super lightweight title. After twelve rounds, two judges gave it to Ramirez (116-112, 115-113), while the third scored it a draw (114-114).

The bout turned out to be much more difficult for the owner of the belt of the World Boxing Council than expected. Zepeda in the first rounds successfully counterattacked and delivered a lot of problems to Ramirez.

Ramirez, however, began to incline advantage as the fight progressed. The 26-year-old champion constantly put pressure on his opponent, who was getting more and more tired. Ramirez's good form in the last rounds allowed him to retain the title. Thus, Ramirez defended his second championship title in his career for the second time.
