In the main event of the evening in Frisco, Texas, Sergey Kovalev (33-3-1, 28 KOs) took revenge over Eleider Alvarez (24-1, 12 KOs) for his defeat last August, winning by unanimous decision and returning his WBO light heavyweight title, thus becoming the three-time world champion. The scores were twice 116-112 and 120-108.

Kovalev was preparing for the rematch with a new coach, an American, Buddy McGirt. Before the first fight with Alvarez, Kovalev declared that he had overtrained and this time had a competent fight and did not make mistakes that cost him the title.
