Usyk is named WBC fighter of the year

World Boxing Council (WBC) named Oleksandr Usyk the Fighter of the year in 2018. In 2018, Usyk scored three victories in three fights. In July, he defeated Russia's Murat Gassiev in the final of the first World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) season and became the undisputed cruiserweight champion, winning WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF belts. In the semifinals, which was held in January, Usyk defeated Latvian Mairis Briedis.

In November, Usyk defended the title of undisputed champion when deafeted the British Tony Bellew. Usyk won by a knockout in the eighth round.

In total, the 32-year-old athlete has 16 victories (12 by KO) in 16 fights.
