The next fight of Alexander Usyk (16-0, 12 KOs) will take place no earlier than next April. It is expected that for the undisputed cruiserweight champion, this will be a debut in the heavyweight division.
Usyk won the Muhammad Ali Trophy this year and became the first boxer in history to combine all four major belts of 200 pounds. In early November Usyk knocked out Tony Bellew, announcing that the fight with the Englishman could be his last in the current weight class.
“At the moment we want Usyk to rest for a while. For him, it was a busy year. Fights against Briedis, Gassiev and Bellew were difficult. Usyk will not return to the ring earlier than April, perhaps even in May, but it is too early to talk about anything concrete,” said Egis Klimas, the manager of the boxer.
Recently, Usyk also signed a contract with the Matchroom Boxing. This agreement may lead Usyk to Anthony Joshua megafight by the end of next year.
