At the ACB 90 tournament in Moscow the fight of Georgi Karakhanyan of US and Timur Nagibin of Russia ended in scandal. The battle was also preceded by serious reciprocal insults.
At the end of the first round, Karakhanyan caught Nagibin at the “guillotine” and signaled to referee Herb Dean that the opponent knocked as a sign of surrender. The fight was stopped, but indignant Nagibin delivered a blow to Karakhanyan’s face. It should be added that it was not visible on any of the replays that Nagibin signaled as a sign of surrender.
Because of the strike after the stopped battle, the judges decided to disqualify Nagibin and award the victory to Karakhanyan.
At the exit from the hall, Armenian fans attacked Nagibin, and a scuffle ensued.
