Savon is one of the three boxers who won the Olympic Games three times, a similar achievement was submitted only to his compatriot Teofilo Stevenson and Hungarian Laszlo Papp. Savon became the winner of the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, 1996 in Atlanta and 2000 in Sydney in the weight category up to 91 kg, he also won gold medals at world championships five times.
