Brazilian UFC middleweight veteran Jacare Souza knocked out former champion Chris Weidman in the co-main event of the UFC 230 tournament in New York.
Weidman completely dictated the first five-minute of the battle. Chris was actively moving, took advantage of speed and delivered heavy shots to the target. Jacare could not reach the desired distance and periodically disturbed the opponent with blows to the body.
In the second round, Jacare began to act much more aggressively, constantly exerting pressure and attacking with heavy side blows. Weidman worked as the second number, but he counterattacked adequately, and at the end of the five-minute takedown was recorded at his own expense.
In the third round, the fighters traded punches, which was more in the hands of Weidman, as the Brazilian began to let down his stamina. Nevertheless, the distance was shrinking more and more and the heavy hits by Jacare increasingly disturbed former champion. One of these strikes knocked the Brazilian out cold. Souza decided not to finish, but the referee did not immediately stop the fight, so he had to inflict a few extra blows.
