Lomachenko: I knew that Povetkin would give a fight to Joshua, but did not expect that so much

WBA lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (11-1, 9 KOs) shared his impressions on the fight of Anthony Joshua (22-0, 21 KOs) and Alexander Povetkin (34-2, 24 KOs).

“We planned everything in order to get to the Joshua-Povetkin fight, to see Usyk’s press conference. We combined it all into one trip,” said Lomachenko.

“The fight between Joshua and Povetkin turned out to be very interesting, because nobody had expected that Povetkin would show such resistance and that he would have a chance to knock Joshua out and win. I think after the first round, all those who were for Joshua and who did not give any chances to Alexander at all, immediately strained and thought that things could not be so easy. I was among them. Honestly, I knew that Povetkin would give a fight, but did not expect that it would be to such an extent.

“Joshua, in principle, did what was expected of him. But again, I repeat: Povetkin fought like a real warrior, and I was impressed. He did not hide, did not survive - he entered the ring to win. This is boxing. Especially in the heavyweights one blow can solve the whole outcome of the fight.”
