Smith stops Groves, wins Muhammad Ali Trophy

In the main event of the evening at the arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Callum "Mundo" Smith (25-0, 18 KOs) from Liverpool knocked out George Groves (28-4, 20 KOs) in the seventh round, took away his WBA super middleweight title and won the championship belt of The Ring magazine and the Muhammad Ali Trophy. Time of the stoppage was 2:04.

Smith and Groves started the fight with cautious jab fencing, but later Smith took the advantage and gradually increased it from round to round. Smith went forward, while Groves fought on the counterattacks.

In the third round, Smith managed to visibly hurt Groves with his right overhand, and in subsequent rounds he landed several more right hands.

The end came in the seventh round, when Smith landed left hook to the head, and Groves stumbled backwards into the corner. Smith locked his opponent and brought down on him a series of punches on his head and body, the most crucial of which might have been the right on the body. Groves fell heavily on his knees, and rose only after the referee stopped counting.
