Mexican star Canelo Alvarez officially refused from a rematch with unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin of Kazakhstan.
Golden Boy Promotion received a message from Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) that Alvarez is unlikely to be allowed to fight on May 5. This indicates that the Mexican is likely to be disqualified for still undisclosed term.
Earlier, NSAC temporarily suspended Alvarez from May 5 fight because of a positive doping test for a prohibited substance clenbuterol.
Golovkin and his team made it clear that they intend to proceed with May 5 as a date of their next fight in Las Vegas, regardless of the opponent.
