Interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson revealed the details of his injury, which will not allow him to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov on April 7 at UFC 223 tournament.

"Do not tell me how upset and angry I am. I can not believe that this happened. On Friday, when I last met with the media, I accidentally injured my knee in the studio. My personal doctor and the doctor of UFC reported that I could not fight, and perhaps I would need an operation. Now I'm going to find out how I can recover faster to return and defend my title.

"I want to apologize to the fans, UFC, Khabib, my team, coaches and, most importantly, my family. I wish you all a happy Easter. I wish it was just some kind of nightmare, or an April Fool's joke. All health, God bless you," Ferguson wrote.

Featherweight champion Max Holloway will replace Ferguson in the fight with Nurmagomedov.
