2012 Olympic bronze medalist Oleksandr Gvozdyk (15-0, 12 KOs) got a unanimous decision over Mehdi Amar (34-6-2, 16 KOs) and won the vacant title of "interim" WBC light heavyweight champion at Madison Square Garden in New York. Gvozdyk dictated the pace of the fight from beginning to end, but there was also no danger of stoppage defeat for Amar during the battle. The scores were: 117-111, 116-112 and 118-110.
