According to the claims of organizers, WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez (24-0, 19 KOs) lost his tooth and earned a jaw fracture around in the fifth round of his fight against the former world champion in the category below Scott Quigg (34-2-2, 25 KOs), which was on March 10 in Carson, California. After the fight Valdez was taken to one of the local hospitals for further examination.
On the weigh-in before the fight, Quigg was overweight for almost three pounds, and the championship belt wasn't at stake for him. However, Valdez needed to win to defend his title.
It is also worth noting that the fight took place in the open arena in the conditions of a heavy rainfall.
