According to a press release by Golden Boy Promotions, a promotional organization dealing with Saul Alvarez, one of the Mexican's doping tests taken before his rematch on May 5 in Las Vegas against Gennady Golovkin gave a positive result to the prohibited drug Clenbuterol. At the same time, according to Alvarez's promoters, the level of traces of this drug is comparable to many similar cases of other Mexican athletes associated with the use of contaminated meat over the past few years.

Golden Boy informed Nevada State Athletic Commission and Tom Leffler, promoter of Gennady Golovkin, about the incident, and is going to urgently transfer the Alvarez camp to the United States. Canelo agreed to undergo any additional doping control that VADA considers necessary, in connection with the current situation.
