In the main event of UFC 220 heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic successfully defended his belt from the claims of Francis Ngannou.
From the very beginning of the fight, Miocic began to transfer his opponent to the ground, but Ngannou managed to stop these attempts over and over again. Francis actively attacked with heavy swinging blows, but only a part of which reached its goal - the champion demonstrated excellent skills, successfully avoiding them by dodges and dives. At the end of the first five minutes, Miocic managed to conduct two takedowns and began to deliver accurate and heavy blows.
In the second round Ngannou had serious problems with conditioning, which was used by Miocic. Stipe successfully carried out strikes in the body and several times transferred his opponent to the ground.
From the third round the fight took a one-sided character: Miocic methodically dismantled Ngannou in the stance and time from time without serious effort transferred the fight to the ground, dominating his rival. Francis tried to conduct rare attacks, but Stipe controlled the action and confidently took all the episodes.
The unanimous decision of the judges (50-44, 50-44, 50-44) and it was given to Miocic. Thus, an American of Croatian origin held the third consecutive defense of his title in the heavyweight division, setting a new record for UFC.
