The World Boxing Council (WBC) continues to consider the appeal of Russian boxer Alexander Povetkin. "Povetkin cannot be returned to the ratings so far," WBC President Mauricio Suleiman said, "We continue to consider his appeal, we are in touch with his lawyer. Accordingly, the suspension remains. "
In April Povetkin challenged the suspension and WBC fine which was imposed in connection with a repeated doping violation. Doping test taken from Povetkin on December 6 last year before the fight for the title of "interim" WBC world champion with Canadian Bermane Stiverne gave a positive result for the banned substance ostarin.
Prior to this, Povetkin had to fight the WBC champion Deontey Wilder of US but the fight was canceled after finding meldonia in the sample of the Russian boxer.
