Garcia beats Chavez

In a fight for the silver WBC middleweight belt Roberto Garcia (41-3, 24 KOs) won a rather unexpected victory by unanimous decision over Omar Chavez (36-3-1, 24 KOs) in the main event in Mexico's Monterrey. Scores were 97-92 and twice 96-93. In the second round Garcia was deducted one point for constant low blows, but with the exception of 2-3 rounds he looked better than his best opponent with a "rich pedigree". Omar Chavez is the son of the legendary Mexican warrior Julio Cesar Chavez and the brother of former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

In his previous fight, Omar Chavez won by KO in the second round over Ramon Alvarez, brother of the more famous Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
