Making a super-fight featuring two of the best boxers to ever lace up gloves has been longed for by fans for some time and 'Rigo' promised to move up to 126 in order to get the contest made. As Lomachenko is now reiging supreme at super-featherweight, Rigondeaux pointed out he was unable to make 130 pounds and hoped a comprimise could be made.

“I won't refer to Lomachenko as a target, but I think it is fair to say that considering that we both have a similar amateur record, there is no better match up for the both of us,” Rigondeaux exclusively told.

“Now, God Bless him that he appears to have no problem whatsoever moving up in weight. I have no idea how he does it, but my body does not respond the same way.

“All I am saying is this, before he finds himself fighting as a welterweight or even a cruiserweight, he should stop and consider that our fight could be one for the ages.

“I love boxing, I do and one day I would love to be able to say I fought the best. There is no question that Lomachenko is among them and I want to make history.

“I have no problem taking a fight up to 126lb if needs be, but not even after eating at a Cuban New Year’s party will I make 130lbs.

"So, if this fight is going to happen, it needs to take place now and at a catchweight that is fair to both of us," he said.

In repsonse, Lomachenko's manager Egis Klimas confirmed the Ukrainian was only looking forward and had previously offered Rigondeaux the chance to face him before he moved up from 126.

WBN Fighter of the Year for 2016, Lomachenko himself said the fight could still happen if Rigondeaux was willing to go up two divisions, although it's already predicted his next stop will shortly be at lightweight.

"Everything in this life has a time and place," Klimas exclusively told World Boxing News.

"When Lomachenko was holding title at 126lbs, Top Rank offered 'Rigo' twice to face 'Loma' and both times his team turned down by trying to make excuse. 'Let's do catch up weight at 124lb,' they said.

"Now when Lomachenko moved and became champion at 130lb, Rigo's team are making noise again by saying, 'let's catch up at 126lb' but we have bigger plans to move into the 135lb division.

"We already been at 126lb and nobody is there and special to fight Lomachenko," he added:

On his own willingness to fight, Lomachenko simply indicated to WBN: "If anybody wants to challenge me, please come over to my weight class division, be my guest."
