Former Conor McGregor opponent Jose Aldo believes the Irishman will lose to Floyd Mayweather Jr. badly if the pair met in a boxing match this year. McGregor is in talks to be Mayweather’s opponent in a 50th fight for the boxing superstar, although Aldo, who lost to ‘The Notorious’ in just 14 seconds in 2015, is convinced the clash would be one-way traffic.

"First of all, we don’t know if it will happen or not,” Aldo said Friday during an online Q&A as reported by mmafighting.com. "There are a lot of things involved, mainly McGregor has a contract to follow so it’s hard to happen, but if it happens, I don’t think he has a chance."

Pushed on how McGregor could be competitive in any Pay-Per-View offering, Aldo added: "Mayweather has the experience of competing for years in the sport of boxing, so I don’t see how. Of course, it's a fight, but it’s hard for us MMA fighters to go to a different world challenging one of the best in the history. I don’t see a result different than a win for Mayweather."

Mayweather hasn’t fought since September 2015 after defeating Andre Berto and will be turning 40 later this month. McGregor firmly has youth and activity on his side, despite the fact bookmakers have the two-weight UFC champion a massive underdog to pull off a shock.

The fight could earn both combatants a tidy nine-figure sum for their troubles through PPV revenue and has been slated to take place in September 2017 or possibly May 2018 when Mayweather will have aged a further year.
